Strathcona County: Bargaining continues with quick wins and more to come

Bargaining update for Local 118 Chapter 009, Strathcona County

Feb 07, 2025

Text only block

Your negotiating team met the employer on Feb. 3 for bargaining. We came prepared with seven key issues that we need addressed. The employer brought forward two issues as well.

The following articles were signed off with minor changes:

  • Article 3 – Terms of Agreement
  • Article 8 – Classifications and Reclassifications
  • Article 11 – Period of Probation
  • Article 15 – Layoffs and Recalls

Other items need further discussion, but the conversation is productive so far. Here are the big issues we’re working on:

  • We need information sent directly to our AUPE Chapter Executive to make sure it gets to members quickly. This includes notice about orientation for new employees.
  • We need more AUPE members on the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

We made a strong effort to get more clarity on the grievance procedure, especially on how to make an informal process work better.

We will meet the employer again on April 7 to continue bargaining. If you have a specific work-related problem or any other questions or concerns, please reach out to a member of your negotiating team.
