On site session set for Good Samaritan Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre
Your Essential Services Officers (ESO) will be on site for consultations at Good Samaritan Society: Dr. Gerald Zetter Centre Small Conference Room in the CHOICE main program area on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 10 AM to 4 PM.
The provincial government uses their Essential Services Legislation to limit our ability to strike and our rights during a strike or lockout. It’s complicated legislation, as is the process of negotiating an Essential Services Agreement (ESA).
Put simply, an ESA lists those services that in a time of strike or lockout are needed to protect the life, personal safety or health of the public, or are necessary to the maintenance and administration of the rule of law or public security. We are concerned the employer may try and list services in the ESA that are not needed to protect safety in order to weaken our bargaining power.
It’s important for you to get involved and participate in the consultations because the input you provide is our most critical resource. Creating an ESA without your feedback would lead to weaker agreements, longer rounds of negotiation, and ineffective strikes.
How to prepare for a consultation
If you have it, bring your job description or send it to the ESO
Bring a list of the total number of staff in your department/unit, including all classifications and whether there are any vacancies (working short).
If you are working short—think of what continues and how you prioritize tasks.
