Copper Sky Lodge: Bargaining a collective agreement continues

Update for Local 047 Chapter 015, Park Place Copper Sky Lodge

Dec 19, 2022

Essential Services Agreement negotiations commence in January

Text only block

Your negotiating team met with the employer on Dec. 6 and 15, 2022 and our continued discussions on non-monetary items were mostly productive. We are scheduled to return to the bargaining table on Jan. 26 and Feb. 9, 2023.

Also on Dec. 6, 2022, notice to commence bargaining an Essential Services Agreement (ESA) was served. Those negotiations will begin in the new year. An ESA is a contract that a union and an employer negotiate to determine which services are essential services and must continue during a strike or lockout.

While the process of ESA negotiations and bargaining for a collective agreement are separate, Alberta’s Labour Relations Code prevents negotiating teams from applying for formal mediation until an ESA is filed with the Essential Services Commissioner.

Remember that while your negotiating team continues to work towards a new and improved collective agreement, your current one remains in full force and effect. If you feel that the agreement is not being followed at work, please talk to a Union Steward or contact AUPE’s Members Resource Centre at 1-800-232-7284 and ask to speak to your Membership Services Officer.

If you have any questions about this bargaining update, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
