CapitalCare GSS: Ingoing proposals exchanged

Bargaining update for Local 049, CapitalCare General Support Services

Oct 18, 2024

Text only block

Your negotiating team met with the employer on October 10 and 11 to discuss bargaining. While the general tone at the meeting was respectful, CapitalCare’s proposals show that they do not respect us or the work we do.

CapitalCare’s ingoing proposals

CapitalCare did not address our issues with work/life balance, they refuse to add National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a stat holiday, and they want to remove your right to union representation in some cases. Their suggestion for wages is far below what we deserve.

Their four-year deal offers the following wage adjustments. We’ve attached their full ingoing proposals for your reference as well.

  • 2% starting the date we ratify the new collective agreement. (This means no retro pay.)
  • July 1, 2025: 2%
  • July 1, 2026: 1.75%
  • July 1, 2027: 1.75%

Our ingoing proposals

In your bargaining survey, you said your current wages and benefits are not enough. You also identified working short as an ongoing issue. We made these a priority in our ingoing proposals. They are attached for your reference.

Our two-year deal asks for the following wage increases:

  • July 1, 2025: 25%
  • July 1, 2026: 10%

Next bargaining meeting

We are waiting for CapitalCare to confirm the dates of our next meeting. When they are announced, mark your calendars to make sure you wear red on those days! We need to show management that we are united and will not back down to get what we deserve.
