EDMONTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) will hold its 47th annual Convention next week, where more than 1,000 union members from across the province will come together to discuss the state of their union and chart its course for the future.

AUPE Convention begins at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 and ends at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.

AUPE President Guy Smith will be available for media interviews at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.

“With more than 82,000 AUPE members at the bargaining table this year, the discussions and debates we will have at Convention are more important than ever,” says Smith.

“The decisions that are made this week will not only set the direction of the union, but also set the tone for how we continue to fight for better wages, benefits, and job security.”

This year, AUPE Convention delegates will join other unions and supporters to Rally for Respect at the Alberta Legislature on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Media are invited to attend.

“AUPE members made their voices heard throughout the summer at our Time for Action town halls and rallies,” says Smith. “This year’s Convention theme is ‘Moving Forward in Solidarity,’ and so it only seems fitting that we join our friends in labour for this rally and make the government see that we all stand together.”

AUPE is western Canada’s largest union, standing 95,000 members strong.
