Whitehorn Village: Improvements for new staff and picking up shifts

Bargaining update for Local 048 Chapter 051, Origin – Whitehorn Village

Jan 30, 2025

Text only block

Your negotiating team met with the employer on Jan. 23 and 24 to talk about key issues like improving workplace communication, support for new staff, scheduling, opportunities for additional shifts and overtime, workload concerns, and parking issues.

We were pleased to share the employer agreed to almost all of our proposals, and in some cases, we reached common ground.

Key improvements include enhancing orientation, an increase from three to five shifts for new employees, and better scheduling of additional shifts, which we agreed to put into place immediately. Please see attached, the new language will respect seniority rights and try to minimize the perceived favourtism when awarding additional shifts.

Your team spent nearly two hours with the owner (Neil) discussing management gaps, short shifts, scheduling and other site-specific issues. We feel this helped us make good progress. We are hoping to work with management and the new DOC to address our concerns and repair the relationship.

If you have any questions or concerns about this bargaining update, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
