STRATHCONA COUNTY – Strathcona County workers hold their ground by rallying for a fair contract ahead of mediation talks.

Roughly 160 members of Alberta Union of Provincial Employees in Local 118, Chapter 009 have been bargaining for a new collective agreement since their last contract expired in 2019. In January 2022, members voted to reject a tentative agreement that did not address their concerns.

AUPE Vice-President Susan Slade said members at Strathcona County are fighting for equal pay for work of equal value, wage increases and benefits for seasonal workers.

“Workers at Strathcona County deserve a fair contract from their employer – and won’t accept anything less – when we return to the table,” Slade said. “Members are rallying today to make sure Strathcona County takes our demands seriously ahead of mediation talks next week.”

Strathcona County workers will be heading into mediation May 10 - 12.
