New negotiations dates set for November

The Employer has formally contacted your negotiating team to indicate it wants to return to the bargaining table. New dates have tentatively been scheduled for Nov. 8 and confirmed we are at the table on Nov. 9.

We have made numerous attempts in the last month to get a response from the Special Areas Board after the majority of AUPE members clearly rejected the employer’s ‘final offer’ on Sept. 12.

Last week, AUPE reached out to the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB) seeking to schedule a hearing as soon as possible on the complaint we had filed last December alleging the Employer has been engaged in bad-faith bargaining.

The Employer only approached us about resuming bargaining after we had contacted the ALRB.

Although we are hopeful for an agreement, based on what we have dealt with over the past two years with this Employer, it is clear that we need to keep the pressure on because pressure is the only way to get the Employer to move.

Your negotiating team’s goal in this long, drawn-out process has been to reach an agreement that benefits the majority (if not all) the membership. We want open lines of communication and we want to work with the Employer to achieve an agreement.

This is the first time they have agreed to get into a virtual room with us as a committee to negotiate the few remaining items without have the ALRB direct them to.
