Employer tabled first monetary proposals
After long delays, your negotiating team is making substantial progress in bargaining a new collective agreement with the employer.
Currently, we are in informal mediation with Mediator Klaus Opatril. Our last meetings took place on May 10 and July 20 and 24. During these sessions, we were successful in signing off on most of the non-monetary items, though a few of the more challenging issues around seniority are still to be resolved.
On July 24, the employer complied with our request for a comprehensive monetary proposal after we informed them that without such a proposal, we would be forced to complete the ESA filing and move to formal mediation.
We were pleased to see that their offer addressed many of the outstanding monetary articles. On August 2, the negotiating team will meet again to prepare our response and hopefully move closer to a settlement.
Mediation will continue August 18, after which we will decide if we will continue with informal mediation or move to formal mediation.
As both parties have agreed to Articles 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 12, 15, 20, 21, 24, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32 and 33, the negotiating team feels that real strides are being made. However, we remain mindful of the fact that the collective agreement has been expired since December 2019, and our goal is to reach a satisfying settlement without any more excessive delays.
If you have any questions or feedback about this bargaining update, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
