SAIT bargaining: Mediation ends, progress made

Update for Local 039, SAIT

Nov 03, 2022

Now we wait for mediator’s recommendations

Text only block

More progress has been made in mediation as we continue to try to get a new collective agreement with SAIT.

The employer has agreed to close on Jan. 2, 2023. All AUPE members will have the day off with pay.

When Christmas day falls on a Sunday, as it does this year, Christmas Floater Holidays are observed on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29 (two days). Dec. 30 is taken off for Jan. 1. In the past, our members have had to work on Jan 2.  This year, the employer has agreed to close on Jan. 2, 2023, giving AUPE members the day off with pay.

Informal mediation has concluded and now we must wait for the mediator to provide recommendations.

It’s likely that we will see a monetary package similar to others we have seen in the post-secondary education sector, but we are hoping for some increased flexibility in the use of Special Leave days.

If you have questions, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
