Noam Chomsky joins June’s Labour in Motion Movie Club

Text only block

AUPE’s Labour in Motion Movie Club is back! On June 23, Noam Chomsky will be discussing his 2015 film Requiem for the American Dream. Named as the most quoted living author, Noam Chomsky is a Laureate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Arizona and an outspoken critic of the U.S. government, propaganda in the mass media, and capitalism. His work transformed the study of linguistics and influenced many other fields, but corporate interests, particularly in the mainstream press, have vilified him.

AUPE is excited that Professor Chomsky will join us for our June 23rd movie discussion! Plenty has happened since the release of Requiem for the American Dream, so we’re going to ask Chomsky about the past few years of populism, pandemics and people’s power: what you can do in the fight for a more free, equal and just society.

Don’t miss this amazing event, so sign up now and we’ll send you a link so you can watch the documentary when it’s convenient for you. Later, you’ll get instructions to join the film discussion on June 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. All registrants who join webinar will be eligible for a prize of a $50 gift card to AUPE’s PUB store plus a copy of one of Noam Chomsky’s books.

Also, when you register, send us your questions for Chomsky, and tell us if you can send us a video-selfie asking your question so you can be part of this amazing event featuring one of the most prolific authors and critics alive.

The LABOUR IN MOTION MOVIE CLUB is AUPE’s monthly film discussion night, where you watch the movies your boss doesn’t want you to see. This unique and fun educational opportunity will help connect you with fellow union members. Together, you’ll learn about how the working-class struggles and union issues featured in important, independent and rare films affect you and your province. We’ll discover ways people can organize to fight back.

AUPE’s Labour in Motion Movie Club is always on the lookout for great labour-themed films to include in our movie club. If you have a suggestion for a film, please recommend it when you sign up.
