Covenant Health GSS: Wage talks are coming, and so is strike training

Bargaining update for Local 040, Covenant Health General Support Services

Text only block

Your negotiating team met with Covenant Health on March 3 for bargaining. We had respectful conversations about several issues.

Your team is preparing for how that might change. We are almost at the point where we talk about raises and other important changes to our collective agreement.

Covenant Health’s wage offer

Covenant Health proposed the same deal that the government and AHS has offered other AUPE members.

They propose a 4 year deal with these wage adjustments:

  • April 1, 2024 – 2%
  • April 1, 2025 – 2%
  • April 1, 2026 – 1.75%
  • April 1, 2027 – 1.75%

We know this offer is not good enough. The cost of living is higher than any of us can afford, and Covenant Health needs to pay us what we are worth.

Your negotiating team’s wage offer

Your negotiating team, on the other hand, is proposing raises that reflect the value of the work we do and help us keep up with inflation.

We proposed a 2 year deal with these raises:

  • April 1, 2024 – 25%
  • April 1, 2025 – 10%

In addition to these raises, we also shared proposals that would improve our job security and address the cost of living. Proposals that would add more money to your pocket include:

  • Long Service increments
  • Overtime changes
  • More Personal Leave days
  • Inceased Flexible Spending account

Strike Captain training

Our next bargaining dates are scheduled for June 10 and 11. We will likely negotiate our raises at these meetings.

It is important to prepare for what happens if we cannot reach a fair deal at the bargaining table. That means we might need to go on strike.

We must be prepared. That’s why we are urgently recruiting Strike Captains.

Register today for an upcoming Strike Captain Course. This in-person course is just 1 day and you will receive time off work to take it.

AUPE’s education staff are here if you need help registering. Please contact them to help you sign up as soon as possible.
