Since 2002, the Day of Validation and Equity (DOVE) Award has celebrated women whose compassion, courage, and leadership have created lasting change for women, AUPE members, and all Albertans.
This year, our union is proud to honour long-time union activists Lorraine Ellis of Local 002 and MaryJane Fisher of Local 045—two incredible AUPE members who embody the heart and soul of the labour movement. They will receive the award from the Women’s Committee on April 30, 2025.
Lorraine Ellis—Local 002
Lorraine Ellis has been a tireless force in AUPE for over 50 years. From a union steward to a standing committee chair to four terms as an AUPE Vice-President, she has poured her energy, wisdom, and care into supporting her fellow members. Her legacy is one of fierce solidarity—and she’s still going strong, fighting today as the Local 002 GSBC representative for higher wages and better working conditions.
MaryJane Fisher—Local 045
MaryJane brings over a decade of passionate activism to AUPE. She leads with heart and purpose, mentoring others and building strength in her Local, Chapter, and worksite. As a committed leader and current Local Chair, she continues to inspire those around her to stand up, speak out, and support one another.
The AUPE Women’s Committee would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the nominees. We are grateful for all the work they do on behalf of their fellow union members and the communities they live in.
