Your negotiating team met with the employer on Jan. 15 and 16 to continue bargaining.
Our discussions were respectful and productive, with both sides taking an interest-based approach.
With that said, bargaining is a challenge given the Provincial Bargaining and Compensation Office’s involvement at the table.
We have finished with almost all of the issues that do not deal with money. There are just a few items left to be discussed at our next meetings:
- A bridging to retirement option, allowing full-time members to work part-time (reduce from 1.0 FTE to 0.80 FTE or 0.70 FTE) in their final year.
- A voluntary separation agreement if the College decides to abolish any of our positions.
- A classification committee - which we will be on, not just management that will work on new classifications and adjustments.
We will present our monetary proposals, including what we want for raises, at our next bargaining meeting.
We are asking for raises that are in line with what workers at other post-secondary institutions make in Alberta. Bow Valley College is one of the lowest paying institutions in Alberta – but they should at least pay us the same as everyone else.
Wear red on March 12 and 13
Our next meetings are scheduled for March 12 and 13. Show your solidarity by wearing red on those dates. Take a photo with your coworkers and email them to photos@aupe.org to be featured on AUPE’s social media.
