We exchanged wage proposals––employer’s offer looks very familiar
Your negotiating team met with Bow Valley College on April 10 to continue bargaining.
Overall, we had positive and respectful discussions. We began the day working through some non-monetary articles––eventually changing course to present our wage proposals.
Bow Valley College gave us a low wage proposal which looked very much like recent offers AUPE members received at other post-secondary institutions.
This is obviously not a coincidence. The fact that the Provincial Bargaining Compensation Office (PBCO) has enforced wage offers across Alberta is no secret. The employer told us that this is just their opening offer––we expect it to improve as we continue negotiations.
The Employer’s four-year proposal is:
Year 1: 3%
Year 2: 3%
Year 3: 2%
Year 4: 2%
Your team proposed a three-year agreement with the following raises:
Year 1: 13%
Year 2: 6.5%
Year 3: 6.5%
We also gave the employer our market adjustment proposal. The employer has not responded yet.
More bargaining news
We signed off on a Letter of Understanding (LOU) that will create a classification committee. This committee will review new and altered positions and share feedback with the employer.
Next meeting - June 26
We are scheduled to meet with the employer again on June 26 to continue bargaining.
