Your bargaining team is pleased to inform you we are scheduled to meet with the employer on March 7 and 8 to continue discussing the terms of our Essential Services Agreement (ESA).
The last time we met to negotiate the ESA was November of last year. We made good headway in those meetings, and if we continue along that path, we should be able to present our proposals on staffing in the near future.
This is good news. As you know, bargaining for our collective agreement is at a standstill, and securing our ESA will not only give us mutually agreed-to terms for a strike or a lockout (if either happens), but it will also open up new avenues for us in bargaining.
Once we secure our ESA, we plan on applying for formal mediation, which will give us the chance to present our proposals to an independent, third-party mediator. The employer will do the same and based upon the cases we make, the mediator will issue recommendations for both of us to vote on.
The closer we are to getting our ESA, the closer we are to taking this next step in bargaining, which we know has tested your perseverance. Thank you for standing behind us throughout this process; your patience and pushback is paying off, and we will keep you up to date as progress happens.
