We expanded our No Discrimination/Harassment/Workplace Violence language and reference your rights under it in the Management Rights Clause.
The revised No Discrimination/Harassment/Workplace Violence has clearer definitions and will better protect us against any inappropriate conduct in the workplace. The employer will be obligated to respond to any complaints of discrimination, harassment and violence against you or residents, either perpetrated by managers, other staff, residents or their families, in a timely manner.
We also updated the Employee Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) language. Your EMAC is made up of coworkers we elect to represent us at meetings with the employer, along with representatives of UNA and CUPE. At these meetings we can bring worksite issues to management’s attention as they arise and prioritize resolutions through co-operative conversations, which could mean avoiding formal grievances.
Other non-monetary improvements include:
• Article 4: the employer is now responsible for timely communication of member information to AUPE, so the union can represent and advocate for us, especially new employees in orientation.
• Language clarifying the shift trade process.
• Provisions for members if they are elected into a full-time union position.
The employer isn’t able to meet with us until Oct. 3 & 4, when we’ll continue to discuss unresolved non-monetary issues. We are still waiting on Chinatown Care to table their monetary package.
As we move forward, it’s crucial that we continue to stand behind one another. We’re creating a better workplace for everyone, and we can only do that if you come together and support your bargaining team.
If you have any questions, please contact us – we’re here to keep you informed.
