Bargaining update for Local 071 Chapter 006, AUArts

Text only block

Your negotiating team is fighting for big wage increases. We told the employer that wages for all members should rise by 26% to catch up to the sky-high cost of living.

We met for bargaining on Feb. 11, where both sides shared monetary proposals.

We proposed wage increases of:

  • Year 1 - 13%;
  • Year 2 - 6.5%; and
  • Year 3 - 6.5%.

We also proposed that none of us should be paid less than a living wage of $22.98 per hour. We encouraged AUArts to seek certification as a living-wage employer.

Other proposals included:

  • Increasing the flex spending account by $500 to $1,500 per year;
  • Increasing shift and weekend premiums;
  • Reducing how long it takes to earn seven weeks of vacation; and
  • Increasing and clarifying benefits coverage.

The employer’s counter-offer was disappointing, but not surprising. It is the same as what many other employers have offered AUPE members across the province.

  • Year 1 - 2%;
  • Year 2 - 2%;
  • Year 3 - 1.75%; and
  • Year 4 - 1.75%.

This is unacceptable. After years of little or no raises, we have all fallen a long way behind inflation, which soared in recent years, causing hardship for many of us.

We have not yet scheduled our next bargaining meetings. Please stay tuned for further updates.

If you have questions, please reach out to a member of your negotiating team.
