AgeCare Walden Heights: Negotiation delay due to employer rep turnover

Next bargaining meeting set for Nov. 26 and 27

Oct 30, 2024

Text only block

Your negotiating team met with the employer Oct. 8 to exchange our non-monetary proposals.

The employer’s proposal suggested changes to the vacation planner, moving from two intakes to one and other minor adjustments to the agreement.

We had a good discussion and remained open-minded, but we will not consider anything that can be seen as non-monetary rollbacks.

Our proposal was more comprehensive, focusing on proper orientation for new units and floors; seniority-based appointments to address favouritism; equal distribution of additional shifts rather than choosing management's favorites; and improving workload and critical incident management.

The employer was open to discussion, and we looked forward to the next bargaining meeting the following day.

We believed we had reached an agreement on several articles for sign-off, but when we met, the spokesperson informed us she had been removed from the file and had no signing authority, effectively canceling the day's negotiations.

We had scheduled days for October 24 and 25, but the new spokesperson confirmed he was available for virtual bargaining only, without providing any rationale as to why.

Your negotiating team told the employer this was unacceptable, and we have rescheduled the two days for in-person bargaining for Nov. 26 and 27.
