LAPP information sessions

Learn about your pension plan and the pension benefits that are available to you. LAPP sessions will be presented by Alberta Pension Services Corporation (APSC) and available to all AUPE members.

We are pleased to announce that AUPE’s Pension Committee is offering information sessions for members who belong to the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP).

AUPE and LAPP are committed to helping members learn about their pensions and plan for retirement. The sessions are presented by Alberta Pension Services Corporation (APSC).

There are nine sessions you can sign up for.

The topics and dates/times of these sessions are as listed below:

Increasing Your Benefit – Buying Back Service provides information about leaves of absence (purchased within the deadline), optional service, and payment options.

The Increasing Your Benefit – Buying Back Service webinar is being offered on the dates and times listed below:

  • Monday, February 5, 2024 | 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
  • Monday, April 22, 2024 | 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Retirement Options includes information about how your pension is calculated, early retirement, retirement options, pension projection calculation, and the retirement application process.

The Retirement Options webinar is being offered on the dates and times listed below:

  • Monday, February 26, 2024 | 9:00 am – 10:30 am
  • Monday, March 25, 2024 | 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
  • Friday, April 19, 2024 | 9:00 am - 10:30 am
  • Friday, May 24, 2024 | 9:00 am - 10:30 am
  • Monday, June 10, 2024 | 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Termination, Death, and Disability provides information about leaving the plan (fewer than two years of membership), two or more years of membership (under age 55, age 55 or older, on or after your 65th birthday), death before retirement (fewer than two years of membership, two or more years of membership, pre-retirement death waiver), disability pensions.

The Termination, Death, and Disability  webinar is being offered on the dates and times listed below:

  • Friday, March 15, 2024 | 9:00 am – 9:45 am
  • Monday, June 24, 2024 | 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm

Registration

AUPE members interested in any of the LAPP 2024 info sessions can register using AUPE's online registration system. Registration opens on January 2, 2024.

Time-off entitlement

Members can receive paid time off for the duration of the webinars: 

1.50 hours for the webinars on Retirement Options, 1.00 hour for the webinars on Buying Back Service and 0.75 for the webinars on Termination, Death, and Disability.

No other expenses will be covered for the registered sessions.
