There are gaps between what AUPE members deserve and what our employer has offered us. We have worked hard in bargaining to reach an agreement and have gotten close, but those last few gaps have not closed. We absolutely refuse to agree to any of the employer’s proposed rollbacks.
The next step for us in bargaining is formal mediation, which begins on May 12 and 13. Your team hopes the mediator can help us reach a fair collective agreement at the bargaining table.
Wages are the key issue for us in mediation. Our employer’s offer does not address the current market for numerous classifications, especially with the top-heavy structure.
Your team will continue to fight for raises that keep up with inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.
Your team is also challenging the high number of non-unionized positions. We have 24 out-of-scope staff managing 44 unionized workers. This number is a moving target as management continues to have a friends and family hiring practice. Stay tuned to see what family or friend is hired next.
That just does not make sense – but makes up over half the town’s payroll! If the Town of Coaldale creates more jobs, we want them to be part of a strong, well-supported AUPE membership.
Wear red to support bargaining
Your negotiating team starts formal mediation with the employer on May 12 and 13. Wear red on those days to show your solidarity.
Showing our employer that we are united helps win the wages and working conditions we deserve. Snap a selfie with you and your coworkers in red and email it to photos@aupe.org to be featured on AUPE’s social media.
Please reach out to a member of your negotiating team with any questions of concerns.
