Jun 16, 2023

Your negotiating team held a series of meetings with the employer on May 16, 17, and 18 to advance the bargaining process. We are pleased to inform you that the employer arrived well-prepared and demonstrated a willingness to discuss our non-monetary proposals. Over the course of the three days, the negotiations followed the typical back-and-forth pattern that is customary when working towards a first agreement.

In our previous update, we mentioned that our committee's primary objective for the non-monetary package was to address site-specific concerns. We remain committed to improving these specific issues to enhance the overall working conditions and ensure that the resulting agreement reflects the best interests of the employees.

During the last day of negotiations, we submitted our monetary package, aiming to secure improvements in various areas that are important to you, such as entitlements, salaries, and fair recognition for the valuable work you all do. Our proposal included enhancements to shift differentials, a weekend premium, the implementation of in-charge pay, preceptor pay, an hourly rate for buddy shifts, as well as annual vacation and benefit improvements. Additionally, we proposed a modest salary increase to align with the wages of HCA's and LPN’s across Alberta.

We have scheduled another meeting with the employer on June 20 and 21 to receive their response and, hopefully, reach a tentative agreement. We understand that we have presented several proposals and placed significant items on the table. It is our hope that the employer responds favorably, allowing us to establish a tentative agreement that can then be presented to you all for a final decision.

We greatly appreciate your patience and support throughout this bargaining process. Your dedication and cooperation have been instrumental, and we will continue to work diligently to achieve the best possible outcome for everyone involved. Thank you once again for your ongoing commitment.

If you have any questions or feedback about this bargaining update, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
