Mediator’s Report From Formal Mediation

You voted on May 31, 2023 and you voted to accept the Formal Mediator’s Report and the recommendations. The employer also voted on the report. 

The employer has rejected the report and the recommendations. As a result of the rejection by the employer, we will proceed to interest arbitration.  

The employer expressed the employer’s wish to proceed through written submissions but cannot have those prepared by June 13 or 14. So the June dates were cancelled. We have confirmed the arbitration hearings to be scheduled on September 26, 27, 2023.   

Our preferences as to how to proceed with arbitration is a formal hearing with written and verbal evidence. It may require testimony from the bargaining committee members. 

The award of the interest arbitrator is final and binding on the parties. The arbitrator decides the content of the renewed collective agreement. The arbitrator normally defers to the recommendations of the formal mediator.
