Bargaining was set to resume between your negotiating team and Portage College on Sept 21. and 22. The employer did not table a monetary offer, saying that they preferred to wait until there is greater certainty.
Your negotiating team agreed to return to meetings in the coming months as broader public-sector bargaining takes shape across Alberta, including AUPE members working as direct government employees who are currently engaged in mediation.
There is clear evidence that bargaining for members at Portage College is affected by the wider approach taken by the provincial government, which has been demanding wage rollbacks and other concessions from publicly funded workers, including other post-secondary institutions.
In the meantime, this is a stressful time for workers at Portage College and members are reporting concerns about workload. All members with workload concerns should consider filing for a workload review, which is a right already in your collective agreement.
Everyone is encouraged to attend a Questions-and-Answers meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 13. You can attend meetings at noon or at 7 p.m. or both to hear about bargaining and how to address your workload concerns. Please use these Zoom links to join the meetings.
