Do you know an AUPE member who is passionate about making workplaces safer for everyone? Now’s the time to recognize their dedication by nominating them for the 2025 Rolyn Sumlak Award!

To nominate a candidate, download the Rolyn Sumlak Award nomination form and submit it by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1.

“Every worker deserves to go home safe at the end of the day,” says AUPE Vice-President Bonnie Gostola, chair of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee. “This award recognizes the tireless efforts of those who make safety a priority and remind us of the ongoing fight to protect workers.”

Established in 1990 by Local 012, the award honours Rolyn Sumlak, an AUPE member who tragically lost his life on the job. This prestigious recognition not only celebrates the commitment of AUPE members to OHS but also serves as a tribute to Rolyn and all workers injured or killed at work.

The OHS Committee will present the award in April during AUPE’s Day of Mourning Ceremony, highlighting the work members and activists do to advance occupational health and safety for everyone.
