Red Deer care workers to rally against cuts today (Tuesday, Aug. 23)
For-profit continuing-care operator Revera is implementing cuts to care hours and staff layoffs across Alberta, even though the demand for care in their facilities is growing.
Today (Tuesday, Aug, 23), members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) will start fighting back against the cuts with a rally outside Revera Aspen Ridge.
Media are invited to attend.
“After spending three years stalling on negotiating a new contract, Revera is now reducing hours which will ultimately lay off hard working health-care workers who have worked tirelessly for residents through a pandemic,” says AUPE vice-president Bonnie Gostola.
“Revera has been cutting hours and laying off staff across the province and country and members have had enough. Not only do these members deserve security in their employment, but they also deserve improvements in their working conditions. How is Revera thanking them for their high-quality service and effort? With rollbacks and layoffs,” she says.
“AUPE members at Revera Aspen Ridge are standing up for themselves and for residents against an employer which was one of the worst throughout the pandemic.”
