Today, we pause to reflect on the importance of intercultural communication and partnership in creating a world that exists harmoniously. We commemorate the rich cultural tapestry of the world and the interlinked nature of diversity. Celebrating what sets us apart allows us to chart a path to bringing us all together.
The United Nations first declared the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development in 2002, marking the key role of cultural diversity in obtaining sustainable development. This declaration was a step in a journey to foster peace and acceptance. The peoples of the world are interdependent and must work collectively to create a world we want to live in.
AUPE knows that our membership reflects the diversity of the world and commits to honouring that diversity while striving for equity and inclusion. We stand with racialized and culturally diverse peoples in their fight against prejudice of all kinds.
