GSBC Update #6 – Monetary discussions at impasse; next step is mediation

Update for Locals 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 009 & 012, Government of Alberta

The last few bargaining meetings with the employer have been focused on monetary issues. Our positions are completely opposed.

Your negotiating team is adamant that the next collective agreement allows us to recover from the severe financial hit our families have suffered as a result of soaring inflation.

Our employer believes that any wage increases should be based on previous contracts. This ignores the real world in which we all live.

Virtual bargaining updates – save the dates!

Your negotiating team will hold 90-minute virtual meetings to provide updates to members.

  • Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at 12 noon and 6 p.m.

  • Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, at 12 noon and 6 p.m.

We will send you all the information you need to know about the town halls, including how to join over your phone and online. Stay tuned for those details.

What’s next?

AUPE members held more than 50 town hall meetings in June. Dozens of Time for Action rallies have since been held across the province to support bargaining. We have built solidarity, energy and momentum. Our strength is growing and, with it, we are gaining the confidence and power we need to take decisive strike votes.

All AUPE members are encouraged to attend these rallies. They are a great way to show all our employers that we are united and determined to stand up for our rights.

Locations of rallies can be found here. Please check regularly, because the website is being updated as new events are planned.

Please stay connected

We will continue to send regular bargaining updates. Please make sure your personal information is updated on the AUPE website here: https://www.aupe.org/update-info

Your negotiating team cannot get an agreement that satisfies you without your active participation. Let’s continue to show our employer that we’re united, we’re determined – and we will fight.
