Work on finalizing an Essential Services Agreement (ESA) has now been completed, so your negotiating team will return to the table for monetary discussions with the employer.

Both sides have approved the (ESA) and exchanged copies to have them signed. Once that has been done, the ESA will be sent to the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB), for approval.

Our next meeting will be when we begin mediation on Feb. 18, followed by more talks on March 20-21 and April 8-9.

We need your input on Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is bringing big changes to the way we all work.

Your negotiating team has raised concerns with the employer over rapid developments in AI and the impacts this technology will have on the bargaining unit, particularly relating to job security.

With the assistance of AUPE’s research department, we will make a formal presentation to the employer on Feb. 18.

Given the many potential applications of AI and the diversity of classifications within the bargaining unit, there are likely to be many effects that the Government Services Bargaining Committee (GSBC) and AUPE staff cannot fully anticipate.

Your negotiating team needs to hear from members to ensure any proposed collective-agreement language is as comprehensive as possible.

We need to know if AI is already being implemented within the Government of Alberta? If so, at which job sites and classifications (including management)?

How will AI impact your roles? To what extent are AI protections necessary?

Please check you personal emails for an emailed version of this update that includes a link to the survey.
