Your negotiating team met with the employer on October 9 and 10 to discuss non-monetary items.
There are two big issues that we disagreed on: the definition of what we consider an emergency and how long disciplinary action should stay on your employee file. We did, however, agree on two important changes:
- Toilet Facilities – The employer shall now make sure that employees have access to toilet facilities. At the start of each shift, the employer shall tell employees where to find the toilet facilities.
- Cellphone Signal Booster Trial – By November 15, 2024, the employer will start a trial on cellphone signal boosters for road check trucks in Lac La Biche, Hangingstone, Drumheller, and Wandering River.
- This trial will end by April 30, 2025. The employer will ask the employees for feedback about the effectiveness of the signal boosters.
- After the trial period, if most employees agree that the cellphone booster signals decreased the number of areas they did not have cell service, the employer will permanently install the signal boosters in every road check truck.
Next bargaining meeting
Our next bargaining meeting with EMCON is on December 9 and 10, when we will discuss our monetary proposals. These make up most of our new proposals, so your support is crucial. Show management that we are united in our demands by wearing red on these dates to support your negotiating team.
If you have any questions, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
