Employer’s wage proposal is far below what you deserve
Your negotiating team met with the employer on March 17 and 18 to continue bargaining.
Our discussions were productive overall. We began with discussions on our non-monetary items. Though we still have some remaining non-monetary items to sign off, we decided to move on to wage and benefit proposals.
In November, your negotiating team proposed a three-year contract with the following wage adjustments:
Year 1: 13%
Year 2: 6.5%
Year 3: 6.5% plus a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA)
The employer responded with a four-year proposal:
Sept. 1, 2024: 3%
Sept. 1, 2025: 3%
Sept. 1, 2026: 2%
Sept. 1, 2027: 2%.
Edmonton Catholic School District’s response simply is not good enough. This offer does nothing to address the inflation and cost of living crisis. Alberta’s February inflation rate was 2.8%, which means the employer is truly offering a 0.2% wage increase––far below what you deserve.
Benefits improvements
Edmonton Catholic School District also proposed an update to our dental and WCB coverage.
The employer proposed a long overdue change to our dental coverage. The updated coverage would begin using the 2024 Dental Fee Guide. Our current dental claims are assessed using the 2009 Dental Fee Guide, which is obviously out of date.
They also proposed changing the WCB top-up to 100%––up from 90% in our previous collective agreement.
Next bargaining dates – May 27, 28
Show your solidarity by wearing red on May 27 and 28.
Wearing red lets the employer know that you stand with your negotiating team. It shows you will do what it takes to get the wages and benefits you deserve. Take photos of you and your coworkers wearing red and send them to photos@aupe.org; they will be posted to AUPE’s social media.
Please contact a member of your negotiating team if you have any questions or feedback about this bargaining update.
