Delegates tackled the third day of AUPE’s 47th Annual Convention with gusto. We addressed several orders of business and made key decisions regarding the good and welfare of all members.

Many resolutions addressed how future Conventions will operate as well as our democratic processes. Delegates determined that Convention will continue to be held every year, with each delegate representing the same number of members.

In all future Executive Officer elections, including for President, Executive-Secretary Treasurer, and Vice-Presidents, members who intend to run are to give notice of their intention 60 days prior to Convention. This process will be drafted by the Provincial Executive by June 2025 and will include contingency plans in the event that not enough candidates are nominated.

Delegates then raised a critical issue from the floor: the negative impact that crossing a picket line has when we go on strike. Crossing picket lines hurts our cause and undermines our solidarity. Delegates passed a resolution to ensure that all members are educated on the impact of crossing picket lines as well as the distinction between "scabs” and those who must continue to work through a strike as per their Essential Services Agreement.

Delegates also accepted reports from the Pay and Social Equity and Women’s Committees. Delegates underscored the importance of pay equity by passing resolutions acknowledging the importance of negotiating living wages for all members.

A resounding recital of Solidarity Forever brought Convention to a close. Delegates will now return to their communities, where we we continue to build our movement and prepare for action!
