Here are some highlights of your new CBA

After three years of challenging negotiations, your negotiating team brought Carewest GSS members a tentative agreement that we unanimously endorsed. We are pleased that on September 1 our members voted to ratify this agreement by a wide margin.

Thank you to members for attending the ratification information sessions, for participating in the lively discussions, and for using your voice to vote!

Below are some highlights from the new agreement.

Salary improvements

  • July 1, 2020 0%
  • July 1, 2021 0%
  • December 1, 2022 1.25%
  • July 1, 2023 2.00%

Retroactive payments will be made within 90 days of ratification.

Covid Premium

  • GSS workers will receive a 1% lump sum for all hours worked between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021.
  • A $1400 lump sum will be pro-rated to FTE for all regular hours worked and paid at the basic rate of pay between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022, to a maximum of 1.0 FTE.
  • Members will receive these payments within 90 days of ratification.

Employees terminated prior to ratification are eligible to receive retroactive payments by submitting a written application to Carewest’s Labour Relations Analysts ( within 60 days of the signing of the agreement.

Evening and Weekend Premiums

  • A shift premium of $2.75 per hour will be paid for evening shifts (between 3PM and 11PM).
  • A weekend premium of $3.25 per hour will be paid for weekend shifts.
  • Where applicable, employees are eligible to receive both the evening shift premium and the weekend premium.

Additional improvements were made to other articles, such as those pertaining to health benefits, occupational health and safety and leaves of absence.

The employer has notified us that they too have ratified the agreement.
