Your bargaining team met with the employer on Dec. 13 to begin our wage re-opener. The Canterbury Foundation entered into negotiations tabling a 4-per-cent wage increase; however, they went back on this and are now tabling a rollback of two per cent.
Your bargaining team rejected this offer.
At thirteen other AUPE bargaining tables, employers in health-care and education are proposing the same two per-cent wage cut.
Now more than ever, Albertans, and especially Alberta seniors and their support systems, need relief. Wage cuts will not provide relief. Putting workers in a situation where they can’t make ends meet, does not provide relief. Shortchanging the workers who act as a second-family to the seniors who call Canterbury home, will not provide relief.
The employer claims to provide the “Promise of Home” to seniors, yet they’re making Alberta a more unliveable place for you. Your bargaining team will continue to remind Canterbury of this and will continue to stand with you until you get the respect you deserve.
