Bargaining continues

Aug 27, 2021

Text only block

On Aug. 17 & 18, your negotiations team met with Canterbury to continue discussing the non-monetary items of our collective agreement. We signed off four articles – three with changes to the language, and one with the current negotiated language – including:

  • Seniority (Article 10): The employer agrees to update the seniority list if inaccuracies are discovered, instead of only giving members one month to contest the list after it’s posted.
  • Salaries (Article 16): If the employer overpays a member, they will have a shorter period to retrieve the wages ( six months, down from twelve months).
  • Job classification (Article 25): Signed with current language
  • Bulletin Board Space (Article 30): Deleted employer approval for posting to union bulletin boards.

We also discussed more stable scheduling, which was one of the key issues you identified in your bargaining surveys. Not only would more stable scheduling benefit the entire membership, but it would also benefit the employer. We made a point of highlighting this mutual benefit to Canterbury. We also had a productive and in-depth conversation about workload issues and how to address them. We will continue to discuss these and other issues and work towards solutions at out next bargaining meetings on Sept. 14 & 15, and then Oct. 12 & 13.
