Negotiating team prepares to respond to demands for wage rollbacks
After delays caused by COVID-19, your negotiating team met with the University for the second time on April 14th and 15th, 2021, to continue bargaining for a replacement collective agreement.
At our initial meeting in October, the Employer was not prepared to provide the Union with its monetary demands (Article 48, Salary Increases) for the current round. However, on April 15th the Employer was able provide their monetary proposal: a rollback of 4%, then 0%, 0%, 0%, for a 4-year collective agreement lasting until 2024.
The parties have continued to discuss non-monetary items. We have agreed to some items including Workers Compensation Supplement, renaming Article 11 to Union Management Committee, Reporting Pay, Letter of Understanding #1 and the deletion of Letters of Understanding 5, 6, and 7.
We continued to work on the collective bargaining process, but the Employer opened almost every Article in the collective agreement. Much discussion remains on items such as Classification, Lay-off and Recall, Health Benefits, and Vacation.
Your bargaining team was able to secure future bargaining dates on June 16th, 17th and 18th, 2021. We will be working together again on May 31st to put together a package of counter proposals to the Employer’s demands.
Thank you for your continued support, without which our task of fighting against these proposed concessions will be more difficult. It’s time to stand up and voice your displeasure with the University’s lack of respect for the work you do on behalf of the institution.
If you have any question regarding the negotiations process, please reach out to one of your bargaining team members.
