We now have a collective agreement with a number of workplace improvements in line with those achieved at other publicly funded health care facilities in the province.

Effective April, 2017 to April, 2019, some of the highlights of our new collective agreement include:

• Flex spending account increases from $100 to $850 for eligible full-time employees, and pro-rated for eligible part-time employees based on their FTE;

• Leaves of absence in line with updated Employment Standards Code;

• A formula for calculating Part-Time employees’ paid vacation hours;

• A new Letter of Understanding for job security;

• New vacation guidelines for Part-Time employees, letting you book vacation time by the hour instead of by days;

• A workload appeal process with clear timelines the employer must follow.

These protections will create a fairer workplace and protect some of our more vulnerable members. We also achieved provisions that will go a long way in defending our mental and physical health.

Our agreement has been updated to reflect new OH&S legislation. Our Respectful Workplace/No Discrimination clause is expanded and includes timelines in which the employer must respond to allegations. We also achieved increased coverage for a number of medical devices and services.

Wages

We negotiated the following wage increases:

Year 1 April 1, 2017 : 0 per cent

Year 2 April 1, 2018 : 0 per cent

Year 3 April 1, 2019: Wage increases matching whatever the Alberta Health Services (AHS) General Support Services (GSS) staff negotiate or get through arbitration in their wage reopener this year.
