Some progress was made at the table and we’re pleased to report the following items were signed off:
• Hours of Work
• Overtime
• Salaries
• Reclassification
• Resignation
• Annual Vacation
• On Call Pay
• Technological Change
We continued to address issues with the current Management Rights article. The employer is unwavering and wants to keep the wording we have now. As you know this has been a big sticking point in bargaining. Unionizing puts you and the employer on a fairer, more even playing field. This is part of the benefit of organizing, and it should be reflected in the collective agreement.
A collective agreement is a mutual agreement, and unless we have language in the Management Rights clause that treats employer and employee as equal parties to the contract, it’s not mutual.
We also asked the employer to fully disclose their policies, some of which we’re concerned may violate the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act and the Health Information Privacy Act. We will continue to review the employer’s policies to determine what’s the next best step in response to this issue.
Your care about your work, helping some of Alberta’s most vulnerable communities. We only think it’s right that the employer values your work too, and respects you and your expertise.
We’ll continue to keep you informed of any developments at the bargaining table. If you have any questions, please contact your bargaining team.
