Bargaining suspended and job security extended

Mar 01, 2021

Text only block

As the pandemic continues to shape our working conditions and requires us to adapt, your negotiations team and the employer have agreed to suspend bargaining and extend your job security to March 31, 2021.

Last week, we signed a letter of understanding (LOU) outlining the provisions. After March 31, your negotiations team will resume requests for new bargaining dates to begin the next round of negotiations.

In the meantime, we’ll continue to meet monthly to discuss bargaining strategy and ongoing issues on the worksite. This is when your negotiations team talks about the things that matter to you, so don’t hesitate to contact us and tell us your concerns, so we can address them as a collective.

Support for healthcare heroes

Thank you again for your patience and dedication throughout. The last nine months, which have taken a heavy toll on all Albertans – especially those who live and work in continuing care. Through the pain and uncertainty, you’ve continued to show residents and each other compassion and care, all while bearing big personal risks.

You are Alberta’s real heroes, and we cannot thank you enough for your service. To ensure you get the same support you provide, we want to remind you of the powerful support you can access, including:

  • The Crisis Support line at 1-844-744-7026, which is open at all times. Call if you are experiencing intense stress, anxiety, trauma or grief as a result of your working conditions.

  • Members’ benefits benevolent fund: If you face financial emergency, you may apply for assistance from the fund by filling out the form here

  • WCB: If you contract COVID-19 at work, it’s vital that you file a WCB claim, even if you don’t lose any wages. As we learn more about this virus, it’s clear that the symptoms can continue well after two weeks. By filing a WCB claim now, you protect yourself in the event that symptoms continue to ail you five months, or five years, down the road.

AGM season is fast approaching, and this year, meetings are moving online. To participate you’ll need to create a personal AUPE (MyAUPE) account. If you haven’t created an account already, visit aupe.org to get a head start, and stay tuned for dates and details.
