On Sept. 27 and 28, the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB) will hold arbitration hearings for our negotiated wage re-opener. Back in November, your negotiating team and the employer agreed to file for this process, where an independent arbitrator will hear both our sides and make a binding decision about your wages for the year January 1, 2021 – December 31, 2021.
The employer’s position is a wage freeze, while your negotiating team’s position is a 2.5% wage increase. We’ll keep you informed of any developments when the hearings start.
We also want to remind you of the support you can access to help you through this difficult time. Across the province, members are reaching out and seeking support. You aren’t alone—AUPE is here to help you cope with the pandemic. Our union provides:
The Crisis Support line at 1-844-744-7026, which is open at all times. Call if you are experiencing intense stress, anxiety, trauma or grief as a result of your working conditions.
Members’ benefits benevolent fund: If you face financial emergency, you may apply for assistance from the fund by completing this form.
WCB counsel: If you contract COVID-19 at work, it’s vital that you file a WCB claim, even if you don’t lose any wages. As we learn more about this virus, it’s clear that the symptoms can continue well after two weeks. By filing a WCB claim now, you protect yourself in the event that symptoms continue to ail you five months, or five years, down the road.
