Is being safe at work an unreasonable demand? Is a fair contract from employers making billions of dollars in profit every year too much to ask?

Of course not.

The 95,000 members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) stand in solidarity with the more than 9,000 Teamsters locked out by Canadian National Railways (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC).

With 82,000 AUPE members now in bargaining, we are in the same fight as railway workers, the fight to be treated with respect, to be safe at work and to be paid a fair wage.

Across Alberta and Canada, we are seeing workers stand up for their rights after decades of being ignored, overlooked and mistreated. We are saying enough is enough. It’s time for action.

AUPE also calls on the federal government to let the bargaining process proceed without interference.

There is no need for back-to-work legislation or forced binding arbitration. The only way to get a deal that works for workers and employers – and to ensure long-term labour peace – is to leave bargaining to those at the bargaining table, the union and the employers.

AUPE members are encouraged to visit Teamsters picket locations on their own time.
