EDMONTON – After months of mediation, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Government Services Bargaining Committee (GSBC) have reached a mediated settlement with the Government of Alberta (GOA) for a new collective agreement for 22,000 government employees.

“With the assistance of the mediator, both parties worked hard to reach this settlement,” said AUPE President Guy Smith. “These were difficult negotiations and I want to thank everyone involved for their commitment and perseverance.”

The settlement will be subject to a ratification vote by the 22,000 AUPE members who work in government services. The GSBC is recommending that members vote in favour of ratification.

“Details of the settlement are not being made public as our members need the opportunity to see them first,” Smith explained. “They will be receiving those details in the very near future followed by ratification vote ballots in the mail over the next few weeks.”

The ratification process is expected to take several weeks and results of the ratification vote will be released once the vote has been counted, likely mid-December.
