The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is proud to commemorate and celebrate women in Alberta and across the country on International Women’s Day, a day when woman across the world come together to celebrate women past, present and future.
This day is a symbol of everything union activists fight for: fairness, justice and progress.
The United Nation’s theme of this year’s IWD is Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. This theme has never been more relevant. AUPE is western Canada’s largest union with over 95,000 members— 75 per cent of whom are women.
This year more than 82,000 members, most of whom work for the Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, will be bargaining for fair wages and good working conditions. Bargaining for a strong, well-resourced and staffed public sector.
Now is the time to invest in women and strong public services and accelerate progress for all Albertans.
