Your negotiating team opened bargaining with your Employer on March 28 and again on April 11. We had a productive review of our non-monetary proposals and signed off on some minor changes.
Your team is working diligently to finalize our monetary proposals. AUPE’s research department will provide us with a full market analysis that will help us decide on the wage increases we want to see. They will also share data on which of our classifications need significant raises to be paid the same as workers doing the same jobs for other universities.
Regardless, we know members need help dealing with inflation. We will review a Cost of Living Adjustment proposal (COLA) when we begin monetary discussions. The chart below shows the lump sum payments University of Calgary members would have received in the last four years if we had this type of cost of living formula.
We all know how hard it is to keep up, to put food on our tables while grocery prices soar, to keep a roof over our heads. We scramble to pay our bills, but our employer wants us to fall further behind.
Your negotiating team will fight for your wages. We will propose that no full-time member receives less than a living wage, or approximately $22 an hour. There is no reason we should struggle while working full time for a major university in a very wealthy province.

Your negotiating team needs your support. There’s no time to wait. We cannot negotiate a fair agreement without your active participation. We need to show the employer that we’re angry, we’re united, we’re determined, and we will fight for what we deserve.
Bargaining town-hall will be scheduled in June – please attend these meetings! We will organize rallies at our worksite and beyond – please join these actions!
