Membership vote scheduled for August 12

Your negotiating team has reached a tentative agreement with Points West Living (PWL) Stettler. Now it’s time for you, the members to vote on the offer.

At our last bargaining meeting, the employer proposed a total compensation increase of 1.25 per cent, split as we saw fit over a three-year contract. Clearly, this was unacceptable.

After an intense day of bargaining the employer’s improved its proposed compensation packaged as follows:
Three-year deal;
2020: 0 per cent wage increase; $450 signing bonus on ratification for part-time and full-time employees; $150 for all casual employees;
May 2021: 0.5 per cent wage increase; increase to Health Spending Account (HSA) January 1, 2021, to $450 (increase of $150);
May 2021: Evening shift differential increase to $3 from $2.75;
May 2021: Night shift differential to $4 from $3.50; and
May 2022: 1 per cent wage increase.
This was substantial increase to the employer’s initial offer and met the mandate we were given by our surveys. Your negotiating team believes it has achieved improvements in the distribution of extra shifts and union representation.

The surveys identified wage increases, benefit-plan improvements, workload concerns, weekend/shift premium increase and equal opportunity for extra shifts distribution.

Although we did not improve the benefit plan (all PWL sites have the same plan) we did achieve an increase to the HSA.

Next steps:

The vote will be held on site at Points West Living Stettler, in the large meeting room downstairs. Voting will be between 06:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on August 12, 2021.
