Support available for members affected by Feb. 10 incident in Ponoka

AUPE members urged to access free support programs after RCMP shot an armed man outside the Ponoka courthouse and provincial building

On the morning of Feb. 10, an officer at the RCMP Ponoka Detachment shot a man who police say was armed and approaching the detachment office and courthouse.

As a result, the Ponoka courthouse and Provincial Building went into lockdown. The man shot has been taken to hospital. There have been no reports of injuries to staff or clients, including the many AUPE members working here.

Events like these can be traumatic for everyone involved. The employer has arranged for Crisis Intervention, including access to the Employee Family Assistance Program.
