Rolyn Sumlak was an AUPE member killed on the job while working for the government of Alberta in 1990.

The award commemorates his life and celebrates members who push for improved health and safety from the front lines to prevent workplace tragedies from occurring.

Nominations close March 1, and forms can be found at the link below. Any AUPE member may be nominated, and forms should outline the nominee’s contribution to occupational health and safety.

Look around your worksite; find a coworker whose advocacy and activism has made work safer for Albertans; and spread awareness about the importance of protecting the people who build and service our communities.

The award will be presented during the Day of Mourning ceremony April 26 at AUPE headquarters in Edmonton. The Day of Mourning is held annually on April 28 and recognizes workers killed, injured or made ill on the job.
