Aug 30, 2023

Please see vote details to ratify recommendations below

Your negotiating team is pleased to share that the mediator has provided recommendations that recognize continuing care staff at the Good Samaritan Society have been without a contract for far too long and deserve to be compensated fairly.

The mediator recommendations released on Aug. 28 stated the following wage increases:

Salary Grid

On the first pay period after date of exchange of written notice of ratification, Employees on staff with the Employer for the period January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021 shall be paid a one-time lump sum of one percent (1.0%) of the Employee’s Basic Rate of Pay for all hours actually worked between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021.

When the parties started negotiating in 2018, a significant amount of time was spent working on non-monetary changes. Changes to the articles can be viewed here. If members accept the mediator’s recommendations, these changes will be accepted as well.

There’s no doubt it has been a long, tough battle so far. There have been challenges along the way, but your negotiating team has been fighting tooth and nail to bring you a Tentative Agreement that you deserve.

We’re almost there, but first, the mediator has requested that both parties (the employer and AUPE members) provide a written submission on or before Sept. 28, 2023, to advise her if the recommendations are being accepted or rejected. That means the clock is ticking and we need to act fast.

Your negotiating team recommends the membership vote to accept the mediator’s recommendations. We will also need to put pressure on the employer to vote in favour of the mediator’s recommendations to reach a Tentative Agreement but more on that later.
