AUPE to hold information picket protests in Lethbridge and Claresholm
LETHBRIDGE and CLARESHOLM – Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) members and supporters will hold two information picket protests in southern Alberta tomorrow, Tues., Jan. 21, 2020.
Media are invited to attend both events.
“The Alberta government may have arrogantly believed that it could impose its austerity policies without losing the support of Albertans. The fact that people in Lethbridge and Claresholm are so riled up that they are organizing two separate rallies in southern Alberta on the same day should make it think again,” says AUPE vice-president Karen Weiers.
“Albertans realize that their government is working for big corporations instead of for its own citizens. They know it’s wrong to give away billions of dollars to big companies while slashing thousands of jobs, cutting services and rolling back wages,” she says.
“The government is waging war on workers and on the Albertans who rely on their services, including those who need health care in communities including Lethbridge and Claresholm,” says Weiers.
“AUPE members are standing up for our public services and all Albertans. We are Alberta’s loudest, proudest union, and the government is going to hear our united voice.”
