2023 Season is Now Fully Booked
Barbecue season is upon us! If your Local, Chapter, Area Council or worksite is planning an event this summer, why not give everyone the meat-sweats by showing up with the AUPE BBQ cart!
What’s better than a barbecue you don’t have to load and unload yourself? How about a barbecue that also comes with your own AUPE staff member to run the grill, and full tank of gas!
Starting on June 21 and continuing through mid-September, our BBQ cart is back. We want event planning to be a breeze, so here’s what you need to know...
First, book your event date using the BBQ Booking form on aupe.org (you should have at least two dates in mind, as spaces can book up quickly). Once your event date is confirmed, you’ll want to announce the event to your members. Here’s a pro-tip for you: If you need help getting the word out, your MSO can request a list of current members’ email addresses from our Records department, provided they have at least two weeks' notice.
If desired, your events organizing team can utilize free software like Google Forms to collect dietary preferences and/or allergy information from your members. Having vegetarian options and accommodating folks with allergies helps create a fun and inclusive event for everybody.
Next, work with your Local, Chapter, Area Council or worksite to purchase the meat, condiments, serving utensils, etc. Be sure to purchase the pre-cooked burgers, as this is required for food safety reasons. On your event date, your Grill Master will arrive with the BBQ cart and propane, ready to sizzle!
With the recent AGM season wrapping up and new leaders stepping into their roles, regional events like these are a prime opportunity to get to know your fellow workers and build your network of support within the union. Your regional VP will always be more than happy to join you as well so send them an invite!
